Mothers Day weekend so naturally not a lot of time to hike. However, did get to check up on the Black Bear with 2010 cubs. Although, she is still in the area, determined by her scat. She is moving around even more now. It was determined that she was here this morning but she has decided to move to another location as the day progressed. A good bit of scouting was done but no sighting. Unfortuantely theres not enough time to find her today which gives her plenty of time to establish a pattern that may be hard to track. The only way to find her now when I get to come back will be to really do an all out search or have some luck of draw if she shows up in the early morning close to here again. If anyone has a sighting keep us posted it can help with establishing her pattern.
We did manage to get a shot of a young brut wondering alone on Little River road in some marsh area. Unlike many of the Young this fellow was not very easily spooked. He wasn't very happy to be observed ,however, and who can Blame him. So we only stayed with him for a short period of time. One would assume that this fellow was expelled from his mother last June or July. Black Mother Bears leave there young during mating season of there second year in the Great Smoky Mtns. However, at his size which was fairly small, something out of the ordinary could have happened. Either way he was feeding fine.
Have a Great Day PWG
